The design brief was to create a new alpine shell combining excellent breathability and freedom of movement with perfect hermetic weather protection. With this goal in mind, Wolfskin developed the CATARACT XT JACKET.

The fabric we selected for the job was TEXAPORE O4 EVO STRETCH, which is extremely breathable (the MVTR is simply incredible: 35,000–40,000 g/m2/24 h!), very waterproof (of course) and has kinetic stretch properties – and thus ticked all the boxes on our list of performance attributes. Additional ventilation comes in the shape of venting pit zips and the remarkable ‘chimney effect’ AIR FLOW COLLAR, which is lined with spacer mesh and allows warm, damp air to escape and cool, fresh air to flow back into the jacket.
